U.S. Retail Pharmacy Enhancement

Pill bottle and Jan 1 calendar illustrationWe are expanding our pharmacy review process for prescription medications obtained in the U.S. Beginning on January 1, 2022, certain medications, generally specialty drugs, will have additional requirements before they may be covered by your GeoBlue plan. This helps to make sure you’re receiving coverage for the right medication, at the right cost, in the right amount and for the right situation. We call this prior authorization.
 
What is prior authorization?
This means we need to review some medications before your plan will cover them. We want to know if the medication is medically necessary and appropriate for your situation. GeoBlue will review the information provided by your doctor to make sure you meet the coverage guidelines for the medication. If approved, your plan will cover the medication. This enhancement only impacts prescriptions filled in the U.S. and there are no changes to the pharmacy benefit for prescriptions filled outside the U.S.
